Yeast infection is the overgrowth of Candida fungus in certain parts of the body causing swelling and irritation. It can affect men, women and children. In women, it normally affects the vagina, causing extreme discomfort and irritation. Vaginal acid keeps the yeast level in control, but this acid decreases under certain situations like menstruation or pregnancy or when using birth control pills. Symptoms of yeast infection are itching, swelling, burning and pain during sexual intercourse and urination. The skin around vagina becomes too sensitive to touch. Inflammation and discomfort gradually increase and irritating sensation provokes desire to rub rigorously. Vaginal discharge may also occur, which unlike bacterial infected discharge, is almost odorless.
How to lessen the painful effects of yeast infection? Use cotton underwear as synthetic ones can worsen the symptoms and restlessness. Avoid wearing jeans or other thick cloth as they are good heat insulator and can retain heat and humidity, a breeding environment for bacteria and fungi. Lessen the use of leggings and panty hose. Coming across a vaginal infection, you can consult your doctor or try home remedies. Unlike natural medication, vaginal drugs in the form of cream, lotion or liquid solution may have slight side effects. Avoid sexual intercourse during infection or use a condom otherwise your sexual partner may feel irritation particularly if you’ve applied vaginal drugs. On home remedies side, you can try the following three items:
Yogurt
Yogurt is one of the proven home remedies for vaginal infections caused by yeast. It contains harmless bacteria that combat the yeast or fungus. Dip a tampon into yogurt and insert twice a day in the vagina for two days. You’ll get relived.
Tea Tree Oil
Prepare a mixture of tea tree oil and olive oil. Dip a tampon into this mixture and then insert in the vagina. You can also use some other applicator. The mixture has a fast soothing effect and relieves your pain. Tea tree oil counteracts the fungus and cures the infection. But seek your doctor’s advice as some women are allergic to this oil.
Garlic
Prepare a multipurpose mixture of garlic oil, Vitamin E oil and coconut oil. Garlic oil heels the infection, Vitamin E oil fortifies the skin and coconut oil prevents the infection from spreading.
If your pain persists longer, then consult your doctor for details examination.
